The Chronology of St. Andrea
1999
I enter an Eger wine competition with the wine I made for my father. I needed a name expressing love and nobility that matches the wine. The name became St. Andrea and the award Big Gold!
Our little family cellar was established. The first wines were made in the spirit of experiencing: Zweigelt, Kékfrankos, Bikavér, etc. Our evaluations were promising: Vinagora 2000 silver medal, Vinagora 2002 gold medal, 2001 National gold medal, and the only Bikavér winning gold medal.
2000
The second vintage was more considerate and conscious, and it brought results in Bordeaux, France too: Cabernet Franc, bronze medal. The Merengő won the Pannon Top Wine award.
2001
Hard year! The challange was big and perhaps unusal too. While the quality was mixed, the white wine accomplished the Chardonnay du Mond, also in Bordeaux (2003).
2002
With God’s grace, we experienced a significant milestone for St. Andrea: establishing the grapes, cellar and vineyard. Our white wine won the silver medal at Chardonnay du Monde 2004 and Merengő (Egri Bikavér Superior) became the Top Wine of the V. Pannon Bormustra.
2003
We established new plantations (Ferenchegy and Paptag) and a new oenologist was born (Ákos Lőrincz, May 13, 53 cm and 2950 kg). The Kovászó Chardonnay got a silver medal and the “terroir wine”, the Napbor received a bronze medal in Bordeaux in 2004.
2004
Another hard vintage. But we built the cellar and finished the concept. The wines were…lively!
2005
I remained without a partner, so it was a very difficult year. The St. Andrea Winery became the third most beloved winery of Hungary, according to Borbarát Magazin.
2006
György Lőrincz won the ”The Beloved Winemaker of the Year.” We work with new business partners with renewed enthusiasm. We extended our vineyard with two “grand cru” sites: Nagyeged slope in Eger and Hangács site in Demjén. At the end of the year the St. Andrea Winery won “The Most Beloved Winemaker of the Year” acknowledgement by Borbarát Magazin and György Lőrincz received the “Man of the Year 2006” award in Poland. The vintage was amazingly strong.
2007
It was a silent year but rich in hard work, emotions and God’s blessings. We were so grateful that we released a folk album for worshipping with the Gajdos Zenekar (www.gajdoszenekar.hu): Missa Pastorale.
2008
The big creation began: establishing the Nagyeged-slope. I could sense that the most serious wines of St. Andrea would come from here. In May, I was awarded The Wine Maker of the Wine Makers 2008 in Etyek. The Áldás 2006 received the best Bikavér Tibor Gál award at Pannon Bormustra. I know it is not a coincidence. I would like to keep living to be able to deserve God’s mercy. At the end of May our new cellar had also been blessed. We had an exciting and nice harvest. The first vineyard wines were born.
