Mythos Merlot 2002

The name of the wine could be a legend. Wine gourmets talk about it in a whisper as they would talk about a vision or a hidden treasure. This is a pure Merlot variety wine, though it still has a shiny ruby color with a manifold crown. There are also some fruits in the nose, but they occurs more like Grandma’s gingerbread baking in the kitchen around Christmas. We felt a velvety quality on the palate, the tanins and the fine acids together give a nice humble masculine tone. The acid + tanin – alcohol balance is excellent. The ornaments are given rather by the spices, though there is also a little fruitiness in it as in a nicely baked fruitbread. In its rich finish there is a lingering aftertaste. Some other highly evaluated red wines have more body but this one represents the ideal body.
