The enologist György Lőrincz, dr. and St. Andrea
György Lőrincz is the Winemaker of the Year 2009! This is the most prestigious award of winemakers in Hungary.
György Lőrincz is a type of “glitter in the night” enologist who has been fascinating wine enthusiasts continuously. Thanks to his pleasure of experiments enriches the science of producing red wine with his own, genuine conception. Anyway, he is a doctor of wines, wrote and maintained his diploma work with the name; “Production of new type red wines in CO2 atmosphere”. However it does not mean solely to be a hypothetical expert. His real homeland, world is in the vineyards.
Practically it is a truism today that good wine born in the vineyards. As special wines on special production sites. There are not much more wine masters like György Lőrincz whose main characteristic features are respecting the uniqueness of vineyards, soil and listening to the words of the crues. He produced a whole range of single vineyard wines mostly using chardonnay variety for whites and pinot noir for reds by trying to interpret the characteristics of Egerszalók, Egerszólát and Demjén areas.
Besides single vineyard wines the so called estate wines are also produced at St. Andrea Vineyards. The classical aromas, bouquet and taste of Eger Wine Region are introduced in both white and red estate wines by blending varieties and grapes grown on different vineyards. Such as the whites called “Napbor” (“Sunwine”) and its elder sister “Örökké” (“Forever”), moreover reds (both are Egri Bikavér) like “Áldás” (“Blessing”) and “Merengő”.
Besides the professionally using the givens of varieties and vineyards, enologist Gyuri Lőrincz elegantly mixes modern technologies, oak barrel ageing and traditional cellar operations. He is a fun of biodynamic ideas both in the vineyards and the cellar. Like his wines, he is a special man. Fine tongued, careful and creative. And thanks God, he is an enologist.
